Dear Superior Central Community,

We are once again working with parents, the health department, and the Michigan Department of Education to ensure that our student have the requited immunizations or the immunization waiver. LMAS will be taking appointments for immunization waivers at Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham on Tuesday, October 14th.

Please call LMAS @ (906) 387-2297 to schedule an appointment.

We appreciate all of the work that parents are doing to help us be in compliance with the State of Michigan.

School Nutrition Update

Good Morning,
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) remains optimistic that an approved and signed budget will prioritize the health and nutritional needs of students by including Michigan School Meals funding, which has been included in budgets for the last two fiscal years. We have been instructed by MDE to continue to provide breakfast and lunch to students as we have since the beginning of the school year.

It is my hope the both the state and federal legislative and executive branches of government can produce budgets that do not have a negative impact on children.

Sincerely,
Bill Valima

Important Information Regarding Michigan’s Safe Storage of Firearms Act

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

I am writing to inform you about a new law that went into effect in the State of Michigan regarding the safe storage of firearms. According to MCL -Section 380.1313b, “Beginning October 1, 2025, and every October 1 thereafter, the board of a school district or intermediate school district, the board of directors of a public school academy, or the governing body of a nonpublic school shall distribute the informational notice developed under section 1313a to the parent or legal guardian of each student enrolled in the school district, intermediate school district, public school academy, or nonpublic school. The informational notice may be distributed electronically or by mail.”

For more information about the Safe Storage of Firearms Act, you can visit https://www.michigan.gov/mde/services/health-safety/topics/school-safety/safe-storage-law. This material can also be found at www.superiorcentralschools.org by clicking on the “Students & Parents” tab.

I encourage all families to review their firearm storage practices. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community safe.

A couple more items for tomorrow. Unfortunately, Band Festival at NMU is also cancelled. The girls' basketball district game will be confirmed tomorrow. As it is a state tournament, I would believe that the game will be played as scheduled.
