Dear Superior Central Community, As you may have heard, today Governor Whitmer recommended that all high schools in Michigan take a two-week pause of in person learning. She also asked the same for athletics. The superintendents of Marquette and Alger Counties along with the local health departments and medical directors met this afternoon and made the decision to continue in person learning as we have all year. For Superior Central, this decision is based on numbers. We currently have 3 active cases at Superior Central, less than 1% of our total population (student and staff). This week we tested 42 student athletes for COVID-19; all tests were negative. We have been fortunate at Superior Central all year with our COVID-19 numbers. I attribute this to our students and parents. Students have been great with mask wearing and hand washing/sanitizing. Parents have kept kids home when they are sick and have immediately contacted the school if a student tested positive. In every case we have had this year, the parent has called the school before the health department. This has enabled us to immediately contact trace and quarantine exposed students. I know we are all tired of this virus. I ask that we all continue to do our best to stay healthy. Wear a mask when you are in the building, wash your hands, stay home if you are sick. As always if you have any questions please contact me. Sincerely, Bill Valima Superintendent/K-12 Principal

**REMINDER** Dear Superior Central Students and Parents, As you may know, the staff at Superior Central was offered the 1st COVID-19 vaccination at Munising Memorial on January 18th. About 80% of the staff received the vaccine. The second dose needs to be administered 28 days after the first dose. Because of the time sensitivity, the second dose is being administered tomorrow, Friday, February 12th. To accommodate the large number of staff receiving a second dose, we will be conducting a half-day on Friday, February 12th. School will dismiss at 12:30 on Friday, February 12th. Sincerely, Bill Valima Superintendent/K-12 Principal

Good Evening Superior Central Community, We were informed tonight of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in the elementary school. After discussion with the LMAS Health Department, we have made the decision to close school on Wednesday, November 17th for all Kindergarten through 8th grade students to conduct contact tracing (9th through 12th grade is already closed per the MDHHS order). Once we have completed our contract tracing, we will make a decision regarding reopening on Thursday. I thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this. Sincerely, Bill Valima Superintendent/K-12 Principal
Good Evening, As you may have heard the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have moved 9th-12th grade to remote instruction beginning Wednesday, November 18th for a period of 3 weeks(high school should report tomorrow and Tuesday as scheduled). At this time MDHHS is recommending that K-8 instruction remain in person. The local superintendents are planning a meeting with the Health Department tomorrow (we usually meet weekly on Tuesday). Also our School Board has our regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow night. Obviously this is a rapidly changing situation. I will do my best to keep you updated as often as possible. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this latest order from the state. Sincerely, Bill Valima
Good Afternoon Superior Central! After much thought and discussion we have made the decision to not host in person parent-teacher conferences on Thursday. We appreciate you understanding our concern for the safety of our staff and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Sincerely, Bill Valima
