URGENT MESSAGE FROM SUPERIOR CENTRAL! Due to illness and and lack of available drivers, Jeff Cady's (Bus 1) but will not be running this week. Students riding Jeff Cady's bus will have to be driven to and picked up from school this week. Bus 1 will return to Tuesday, November 16th. I apologize for this inconvenience. Bill Valima

Good Afternoon SC Parents, You may have received a bunch of emails from PowerSchool this afternoon with attendance reports. Apparently, over 1,000 email reports were somehow "stuck" in PowerSchool's outbox for the last year or so. I want to apologize for the flood of emails you may have received this afternoon. Due to illness at Brimley, the Homecoming Football Game scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. Mrs. Bray contacted schools throughout northern lower Michigan and Wisconsin hoping to find a team to play for Homecoming. Unfortunately, there is no one to play. We know this is disappointing.

Just a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Friday, October 8th due to teacher professional development. Enjoy the long weekend!

Dear Superior Central Families, As you may know, we are currently down a bus driver. Our transportation department met yesterday morning. We have combined some routes, switched a few things, and believe we have a pretty good system in place to continue to pick up all students who ride our buses. New routes will begin on Monday, October 4th. Drivers will be calling over the weekend to confirm pick up times. As soon as we hire another driver we will go back to our old routes. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for understanding that we are doing all that we can to make this as smooth as possible. Sincerely, Bill Valima

Good Afternoon Cougars! It is hard to believe that in 16 hours we officially kick off the 2021-22 school year. The staff is excited to see all of the smiling faces tomorrow morning. Per our current COVID-19 plan, masks for students and staff are optional. We will respect the decision your family makes to either wear a mask or not and ask that you do the same for fellow students and staff. As a reminder, the school doors open at 7:55 with breakfast (free) served until 8:10. K-5 students will report directly to their classrooms upon arriving at school. 6th-12th grade students can grab breakfast and head to the gym. The middle and high school will have a brief assembly and then head to their assigned teacher from the assembly for schedules and short class meeting. The school day ends at 3:11. We ask that all parents and others picking students up wait outside at the end of the day. Also, our girls volleyball teams will host Stephenson beginning at 6:00. Update - July 14, 2021 Dear Superior Central Staff, Students, and Community, I hope you have enjoyed your summer so far and have been able to spend time with family and friends. Over the last several weeks, we have been busy assessing the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Earlier today, I met with Superintendents from Alger and Marquette Counties, along with officials from the LMAS County Health Department and the Marquette County Health Department. During this meeting, we reviewed the current recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services as they pertain to K-12 students and COVID-19. As long as the current recommendations from those agencies remain the same, the following procedures will be in place at Superior Central Schools for the 2021-2022 school year: • Based on current community transmission of COVID-19, masks will be recommended but will not be required. We will respect the decision your family makes to either wear a mask or not and ask that you do the same for fellow students and staff. • We will not require our students or staff to be vaccinated as a condition to attend our school or participate in sports or after school extracurricular activities. • If a student or staff member contracts COVID-19, we will require this person to abide by the direction of their physician and the Health Department. We will continue: • With our hand sanitizing stations on busses and in the hallways. • With our policy of staying home if you are sick. • Ensuring that our building is cleaned and sanitized. • With encouraging healthy habits like handwashing and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze. • With our use of outdoor learning spaces if applicable. • Offering live streaming of all our sporting and concert events for those unable to attend. We have made the decision that the Superior Central Online Academy will no longer be available to our students. While some students flourish in a virtual setting, we found that most do not. In addition, several services that we provide can only happen in a face-to-face setting. We strongly feel in-person instruction is much more beneficial than any online program. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we continue to navigate through this challenging time in history. The safety of students and staff remains a top priority. Dear SC Community, As you may have seen, the Marquette County Health Department has reduced the number of days of quarantine back to 10 days. This morning we met with the LMAS Heath Department. LMAS is keeping the 14 day quarantine. As we fall under the jurisdiction of LMAS, students who have to quarantine at SC will continue to quarantine for 14 days. If you live in Marquette County and attend Superior Central, LMAS said you still have to follow the 14 day quarantine period. If you have further questions please feel free to contact me. Dear Superior Central Community, As you may have heard, today Governor Whitmer recommended that all high schools in Michigan take a two-week pause of in person learning. She also asked the same for athletics. The superintendents of Marquette and Alger Counties along with the local health departments and medical directors met this afternoon and made the decision to continue in person learning as we have all year. For Superior Central, this decision is based on numbers. We currently have 3 active cases at Superior Central, less than 1% of our total population (student and staff). This week we tested 42 student athletes for COVID-19; all tests were negative. We have been fortunate at Superior Central all year with our COVID-19 numbers. I attribute this to our students and parents. Students have been great with mask wearing and hand washing/sanitizing. Parents have kept kids home when they are sick and have immediately contacted the school if a student tested positive. In every case we have had this year, the parent has called the school before the health department. This has enabled us to immediately contact trace and quarantine exposed students. I know we are all tired of this virus. I ask that we all continue to do our best to stay healthy. Wear a mask when you are in the building, wash your hands, stay home if you are sick. Good Afternoon, The Student Council has planned a K-12 Spirit Week for next week during Boys and Girls Districts. Dress-up Days are as follows: Monday - College Day (dress in college gear or like a college student) Tuesday - Beach Day/Tacky Tourist (dress like a summery tourist) Wednesday - America Day (get out your red, white, and blue) Thursday - Yooper/Carhartt Day (dress like a Yooper and throw on your Carhartts) Friday - Blue Day (wear as much blue as possible)

Hi Cougars! Jeff Moore's Bus #5 was in a minor accident this afternoon. A car slid in to the back of the bus. Thankfully, there are no injuries. After speaking with the Sheriff Department we have been given the all clear to continue the bus route. Students on Bus #5 will be about 25 minutes later than usual. Bill Valima

**REMINDER** Dear Superior Central Students and Parents, As you may know, the staff at Superior Central was offered the 1st COVID-19 vaccination at Munising Memorial on January 18th. About 80% of the staff received the vaccine. The second dose needs to be administered 28 days after the first dose. Because of the time sensitivity, the second dose is being administered tomorrow, Friday, February 12th. To accommodate the large number of staff receiving a second dose, we will be conducting a half-day on Friday, February 12th. School will dismiss at 12:30 on Friday, February 12th.
